Saddest music ever ua-cam.com/video/jOIAi2XwuWo/v-deo.html
Definitely the kind of content I'm looking for, thank you so much for this. Very insightful.
This is so wonderful to study. The chords, and the scales, etc. What a useful job. Thank you so much. If not asking you too much it would be even more useful for violinists like me if the sheet music of violin could appear together. Thank you and greetings from Brazil. 👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏
This is so cool, I love finding out where these amazing breaks come from!
좋은 영상 올려주셔서 감사합니다.
Great!
Its too bad this generation won't know or understand diggin in the crates. Their definition of diggin the crates is ableton or Pro tools.
I wish all the classical pieces I love would have such a structured description available :) thanks!!
Thanks for the great visualization and the fantastic blog post analyzing the song! One remark: the Adim7 chords are really A half-diminished 7th, isn't? So with flat 7th instead of double flat 7th. It is visualized clearly in the displayed wheel, and corresponds to the chord shape x0101x (strings 6th to 1st) which Robert Jonhson is playing, according to the tablature you show in the blogpost.
Good catch, there are indeed places where he plays the open G string on that chord, so yes, I guess those would be Aø7 chords.
Excellent!
Hi, how did you manage to get a file like this broken down track by track into your daw?
The multitracks are in circulation, though not legally.

Breakbeat natural selection
Such an amazing oppertunity to see inside this thing that I heard for over a million times. Thanks for sharing this insight, it really helps grasp and refine why I adore this rhythm.
This is incredible! So helpful in beginning to untangle why this is the most remarkable work of art. Also, I see you’re a fellow dead head. I’ve also been hooked on Jerry for years now. The further I get down the Bach rabbit hole, the more similarities I’ve been seeing between them. Jerry is Bach, but if he took tons of acid for years (and then smoked a lot of dope and coke for years 😅).
Enjoyed your analysis. Some minor correections: the third verse guitar, the third note preceding the sus notes lick is an octave higher, it's not the open D string it's D string 12th fret. The coda guitars are played in octaves and not a 12 string. At 17:50, the guitar playing the A - D - dropped D pattern - C - G ends on A: (X 7 7 6 5 O). I did a video demonstrating the guitar parts:ua-cam.com/video/Pi5TfMj6uBY/v-deo.htmlsi=rfNyy48TLfkwgguo

wonderful and helpful :)
I LOVE this song but I HATE the fact that it reminds me of Robert Durst. It's like an oxymoron for me.
Thank you so much for the work you have put into this presentation. I have been struggling with this piece for weeks. I love the beginning but then just got lost. Your video, opened windows and doors for me.
Glad to hear it, that's why I do this.
Please only speak about facts. Making up people's relatives is careless reporting.
Edging my amen break
Thanks
Dear Ethan Great analysis (though much was above my head). One of the "strangeness" factors in this song is that it is in LIMERICK form . . . not the common quatrain form you find in most songs. Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day The sun is up, the sky is blue It's beautiful and so are you Dear Prudence won't you come out to play Keep well
Did you use a midi keyboard for the melody visualization?
I downloaded the MIDI off the web and aligned it to the idea using Ableton Live's warping functionality. I annotated and color-coded the MIDI by hand.

"When She Made Me Promise" by The Beginning of the End
This is THE song that made me fall in love with her. Prior to hearing this, she just struck me as a shrieky alien who made me click away whenever one of her videos came on, but Jòga was astonishingly beautiful from the start and truly unlike anything I had ever heard in my life.
I love this. Thanks!
thanks, more bjork please :)
I can’t hear audio from my device. Would you know why? It’s not the volumes of the device and the programs at 80%. Some hidden feature I don’t know about?
I'm not sure why this is. Are you using Chrome or some other browser?
Great! I loved the video, thanks.
Didn't understand the way the rythym in the chorus was, thanks for analyzing from a theoretical way these not so commercial songs. I have no clue about music theory, helps in some way
I've noticed that some parts of his music sound a lot like jazz harmonies. In my subjective opinion, Chopin's music had a big influence on jazz harmonies. Before him, not many people were doing things like polyrhythms, chromatic harmonies-i think he uses often uses shifting of root notes to do this in some way, big juicy chords-i've heard him use 9,11,13 chords, and so on - there's a lot to mention. Chopin also influenced Debussy, who had a big impact on jazz harmonies as well. Of course when you look at it all, it's clear that much of today's music wouldn't be the same without the groundwork laid by Bach.
I don't like jefferson airplane today song i like tom scott today song
Wonderful analysis! I’ve been crazy about this song for years and years. Would love to hear what you had to say about her song Thunderbolt. It has some quite interesting harmonies and phrasing to my novice ears
So according to me Bach probably used his own temperament (simmilar to Lehman) or 12-TET because those two only sound right to my "modern" ear 😅
Cue Bellagio fountains. Good lord was this fun to watch. Well done, sirrah.
I especially Iove that moment around four and a half bucks when Eddie Van Halen materializes in the Bach household, plates fall crashing from shelves, Johannes does a spit-take on his ale, Maria Barbara rushes the children to safety, Eddie plugs his stacks into his time capsule generator, and they all get down playing 'Eruption.'
A few seconds ago when this video showed up on my feed, I thought back to the time when I was fourteen years old and first dropped the needle on my 'Mozart's Greatest Hits' LP. Six years later my guitar teacher asked what music I might want him to transcribe. I told him my favorite lick had always been this sentimental, flirtatious interlude from Elvira Madigan... and then I hit play on your video...
Cool
f*ck aeolian tho am i right
Incredible
I absolutely hear this song in C#m, not E maj. The C# major in the verse makes sense as a picardy third, and is unambiguously the tonic. There's no cadence in e major. The only time we hear an e major chord is at the beginning of the chorus, which harmonically and melodically resolves at the end of the phrase with a c#mi
Cadences are not very structurally important in pop and electronic music, and are completely absent in many songs by Björk. I hear that E in the chorus as a tonic because of metrical placement as emphasis. The phrase might end on C#m, but it's in a metrically weak position.
@@EthanHein metric placement is, as you mentioned, often experimented with, without affecting the key of the piece. Truncating or displacing the tonic is a common compositional tool in classical and popular music. Cadences are present often in pop music, just not necessarily a PAC or a V to I cadence. Plagal cadences, subtonic cadences (bVI to bVII to I is super common for example), Phrygian cadences etc... There are several ways that a tonic is arrived at, or tension is resolved to a stable tonic, without having a V to I cadence. In this piece, the harmonic center c#minor is emphasized repeatedly. Much moreso than E major.
@@shanebilowitz7261 There's a plagal cadence going to the E at the beginning of the chorus.
@@EthanHein the harmony largely drops out at that point, and the vocal melody implies an f#mi to me, moreso than an A major. In the chorus, we get a (minor v) to i to end the phrase in c#mi, which is a common cadence in pop songs in a minor key.
Wow this is gold! quick question, how did you "diagrammed out all of the harmony in flowchart form:" what software did you use?
Never mind, just watched at the full analysis you have, amazing man!
Thanks man! Great presentation of the data.
